Preconception

The preconception segment is an emerging category with a lot of room for growth. From a nutrition standpoint, the essential nutrients are similar to other stages in maternal health, but the messaging is much different. Products that focus on preconception solutions offer women in their reproductive years nutritional solutions that help their bodies get ready for a more healthy pregnancy and baby1. Currently, many women opt for prenatal vitamins to solve this need. 43% of US women who are now pregnant or have had a baby in the past 12 months state they took prenatal vitamins before becoming pregnant2. Still, many consumers express “pill fatigue” and prefer to get their nutritional requirements from food and beverages. This gives brands an excellent opportunity to provide preconception solutions using a unique, more targeted approach.

Nutritional Needs

Important Nutrients Include3,4,5

  • Folic Acid
  • Iodine
  • Choline
  • Iron
  • Calcium

In addition to key nutrients, lifestyle goals such as maintaining a healthy weight and focusing on your mental wellbeing (looking at you, stress) are key areas of focus for preconception health1.

Fizzy! Preconception Vitamin Water Stick Pack

Inspiration

Mothers with children are twice as likely to consume enhanced waters. 30% of mothers with children in the household indicated they consumed enhanced water compared to only 15% of their non-parent counterparts6. Those with parenting on the brain also know hydration is key, so they are more likely to seek out flavors to give their water more excitement. One in three mothers strongly agree adding flavor makes water more exciting, while only 14% of non-parent females say the same7.

Restful Sleep Whipped Fruit Bar

Inspiration

Women preparing their bodies and minds for a healthy pregnancy are encouraged to focus on their overall mental wellbeing. A good night’s rest is a critical component of mental health. Even minor sleep deprivation can have a negative impact on our memory, judgment, and mood1. According to the American Psychological Association, Americans would be happier, healthier, and safer if they got an extra hour to 90 minutes of sleep per night8. Still, many of us have a hard time getting to sleep and staying asleep.

Enter PepForm® Tryptophan. Studies have indicated that tryptophan benefits sleep, recovery, and mental performance (that’s like the triple threat of sleep support).

Benefits of tryptophan include:

  • Acting as an effective sleep aid9,10,11
  • Reducing the time it takes to fall asleep12,13
  • Not impairing cognitive performance or inhibiting arousal from sleep (no grogginess)14
  • Non habit forming15
  • Increasing next-day alertness16
  • Increasing next-day attention span17
  • Enhancing production of Human Growth Hormone (HGH)18
