Cholesterol is a waxy, fat – like substance that your body needs. There are two kinds of cholesterol found in our bodies, the “good” high-density lipoprotein or HDL, and the “bad” low-density lipoprotein or LDL. Having excess of cholesterol can begin to build up on the walls of the arteries and create blockages. If these blockages become severe it can lead to heart disease, heart attacks and stroke.
